Tamang Heritage Trek Overview

Tamang is an ancient Nepalese tribe. According to Nepalese history, the Tamang tribe migrated from Tibet and made their home to this pristine Langtang region. There is an ancient song “Gyanaka Games Phepkaziam’ which means appeared from China, proves that Tamang is the oldest Yambu tribe migrated from China to Nepal.

The Tamang Heritage Trail offers a beautiful and picturesque landscape of the Himalayas and some insights into the cultural aspects of Tamang Tribe which is pretty similar to that of the Tibetan people.

Getting to know the rituals, cultural practices, combined with the natural views of the glacier, surrounding mountains, rivers are the highlights of Tamang Heritage Trail Trek. They have their distinct festival Lhosar which differs from other Lhosar celebrated by Gurungs.  

Our trek starts from Syabrubesi & is the gateway to the Langtang region. The trials here has been created for promoting the local culture, practice & customs, food of this ethnic Tamang group that lives throughout the route.

Next destination is Rasuwagadi, the historical border which joins Langtang Valley trail crossing Tamang villages and river valleys, the scenery which is simply breathtaking.

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
20 minutes drive to hotel
Max Altitude: 1,350 m

The representative/guide assigned for you by Himalayan trekkers will receive you at the airport. In the evening your trekking guide will meet you in the hotel lobby and brief you about the trek. If you have any queries you can put them in front of the guide.

Day 2: Drive to Syabrubesi
7-8 hrs
Max Altitude: 1,460 m

After breakfast, we drive to Syabrubesi from Kathmandu which is almost 7 hours drive on the rough road. Upon reaching Trishuli bazaar we will have lunch and continue our drive.

Day 3: Trek to Gatlang
5-6 hrs

Today we have a long yet interesting day with almost 6 hours of walk. We walk up in a steep trail up to Rongga Bhanjyang for about 3 hours and stop for some photography and rest. From Ringa we descend about an hour to reach Goljung where we will take a lunch break. It takes us 3 more hours to reach Gatlang from the lunch place. In the evening we can do a short excursion to the pond named after Lord Shiva’s wife, Parvati.

Day 4: Trek to Tatopani

After breakfast, we head up into the trail that goes up to Chilime and takes about 2 hours. After a brief stop at Chilime, we cross a suspension bridge and climb another couple of hours before reaching Gonggang village which is our lunch spot for today. After lunch, we head towards Tatopani and at a decent pace, it talks us little less than 2 hours to reach Tatopani or the area of hot springs. It is believed that taking a dip in these natural springs helps to get rid of the skin diseases and also the tiredness after a long day walk. Our guide will accompany you to the hot spring. Having a beer while you are in the pond is a luxury in the cold mountains. After the hot spring dinner will be ready and enjoy dinner and plan the next day with your guide.

Day 5: Trek to Nag Thali
6-7 hrs

Our destination for today is Nagthali, which literally means the Snake point. We start the day after a warm breakfast prepared by our Homestay host and continue our 5 hours walk for today We ascent and descent until Brimdang a small settlement with a monastery. We continue from her after a brief rest for another 2 hours and reach Nagthali, where you can enjoy the lunch (if you are not hungry on the trail) with the view of the central Himalayan region of Nepal.

Day 6: Trek to Timure
7-8 hrs
Max Altitude: 1,750 m

After breakfast, we start the longest and most tiring day of the trek. We will trek for one and a half hours and take a small break for drinks at Thuman village as we don’t find any more hotels and tea houses until we reach Timure. After a short break, we continue till the Bhote Koshi river and after walking for about 4 hours from the river we reach the village of Timure. By the end of the day, your tired legs will suggest that yes you have walked more than 7 hours.

(Note: We only trek till the near village of Timure Danda because Timure border is a restricted area and foreigners are not allowed here.)

Day 7: Trek to Briddim
5-6 hrs
Max Altitude: 2,230 m

Today our destination is one of the most popular Homestay destinations in Nepal. We are heading towards Briddim which takes about 6 hours from Timure We will walk for about 3.5 hours in the opposite direction of the flow of Bhotekoshi and reach Lingling where we stop for Lunch. After lunch and a brief rest, we continue to ascend a couple of hours to the village of Briddim. Briddim is a scenic village at more than 2200 m with a nice community homestays program and nice Mountain View. Experience the Nepalese homestay in the evening with Nepalese delicacies and interactions with locals.

Day 8: Trek to Syabrubesi
4-5 hrs
Max Altitude: 1,460 m

Today we go down and down until reaching the Syabrubesi. On the way, we pass thin alpine forests and rhododendron bushes and a lot of thin Tamang settlements. In 5 hours we reach down and in the evening we will celebrate the completion of the trek with drinks and nice snacks.

Day 9: Drive back to Kathmandu

After breakfast, we will drive back to Kathmandu by private vehicle and going to message center to forget the pain of trek. Farewell dinner with Himalayan trekkers team. Overnight at the hotel.

In general we arrange a 3-star hotel with all facilities in cities. If available, you can opt for a more budget-friendly option or upgrade to a more luxurious hotel by paying a little extra.

Although all places during your trek do not have all modern facilities (especially at higher altitudes), we ensure that it is arranged safely and comfortably. Mostly hygienic and safe tea houses / local lodges / home stays are arranged & please feel free to personalize according to your preference.

Meals

Breakfast is usually included with your B&B accommodation within the costs. Meals in the city must be paid separately. Often in the cities, you can choose from many different cuisines and varied food services. We can always help you find the right place.

Remote areas don't have that many options, but hygienic and well-prepared food is always served. Moreover, most meals are included in the costs during your trek. We can help you make changes according to your preference and budget, but only if choices are available!
