Mera Peak Climb with Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most remote trekking areas in the Everest Region. Trekking to the base of the world’s highest mountain and climbing Mera Peak is a dream that every trekker dreams of.

It's the ultimate Himalayan adventure. On this trek, you are so very close to Everest and the amazing Mera Peak at 6476 meters.

The whole trekking trail requires you to have some technical climbing skills to cross the pass. It is also imperative that you are in perfect physical shape. En route the trail, we will cross Mingbo La Pass and enter the Khumbu Valley.

Just before the pass, the trail turns towards the Mera Peak region where you can climb the highest trekking peak and then continue to Khumbu Valley.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu
30 Min Drive to Hotel

From your home country, you will have a scenic flight to Kathmandu where you can see the panoramic view of the Himalayan Range with the natural beauty of Nepal. Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, a representative from Himalayan Trekkers will be waiting with your name card and will welcome you with garland and assist you to the hotel.

Today after breakfast you will be picked up by your city guide who and take you to some of the landmarks of the Kathmandu Valley like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square, and Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Stupa, Boudhanath, Pashupatinath, and so on. All these sites are UNESCO enlisted heritage sites of Kathmandu. You will visit some of these and the rest of the time you can do last moment shopping for trekking by consulting with your guide.

Day 3: Fly to Lukla & Trek to Phakding

Today we will fly to Lukla which is considered the world's most adventurous airport located at an altitude of 2860 Meters. We will take an early Twin Otter flight to Lukla which is the main entrance to the Khumbu Region. This is an adventurous as well as exciting flight, which provides you a stunning view of Everest in the distance.

Upon arrival in Lukla, we will meet our crew members including the trek staff and porters, and start our trek to Phakding (2600 m) or we can continue to Monjo (You can discuss with your guide on the stop if you are physically fit and want to continue). 

Phakding lies at the bank of Dudh Koshi River which drains the whole of the Khumbu region, this small village is on the main trade route through the area. We will stay in well-built lodges.

Day 4: Trek to Namche Bazaar

We will have a gentle walk up the banks of Dudh Koshi River, crossing it twice before we step to the village of Monjo, and gentle walk further 20 minutes to Jorsale where we will enter Sagarmatha National Park. 

We will then cross the convergence of the Dudh Koshi and the Bhote Koshi on a high suspension bridge and ascend gently for about 2 hours up “Namche Hill” to reach the astonishing village Namche Bazaar (3440m). 

This is a wealthy trading town and the capital of the Khumbu Region. Many Tibetans cross the border and come here for trade. This place is also popular to buy genuine Tibetan artifacts. We can see the lofty peaks of Thamserku and Kangtega to the east of the valley.

Day 5: Acclimatization and Explore around Namche Bazaar

We desperately need the spare day in order to adjust to the low oxygen levels. Today we will ascend to Syanboche hill (3900m). From this spot, we can see the mouth-watering view of the entire Everest Region including of course Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Kusum Kanguru, Tawache, Kunde, and other small snow-capped peaks. Also, people use to say that you have to be at Syanboche before you die.

Furthermore, we will visit the high Himalayan Sherpa Village- Khumjung, from where you can see the Hillary school. And a little bit of walk from Khumjung we can reach Khunde where we visit the Khunde monastery which depicts the clear picture of local Sherpa culture, traditions and you can also see the sculpture of “Yeti”, which you have heard in myths only. 

On this acclimatization day, we will spend time hiking and rest which will allow fasting acclimatizing in the high region. After this marvelous view, we will return to Namche for an overnight stay.

Day 6: Trek to Tengboche

From Namche, the Everest trail leads around the side of the valley high above the Dudh Koshi. As we walk we will see the magnificent view of the great peaks of Khumbu comprising Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, and other peaks. 

We walk down to our lunch stop passing many small villages and numerous tea houses. After our delicious lunch, we ascend just above 2 hours to the zig-zag uphill road to Tengboche. 

Tengboche is the residence of a stunning and recently rebuilt Monastery. Strolling around the village during the evening is pretty refreshing! Overnight stay.

Day 7: Trek to Dingboche

Today initially we will descend down through the dense Rhododendron forests until the trail crosses a new suspension bridge just further than Deboche. An hour walking from Dingboche will bring us to the small but magnificent village Pangboche, an outstanding viewpoint for Ama Dablam (Mother’s Charm Box). 

Ascending the valley side, we will again cross the river and turn up the Imja Valley to reach the charming farming village of Dingboche.

Day 8: Acclimatization and Explore Around

Today is a spare day to acclimatize so we will wake up early in the morning and walk off the ridge which lies behind Dingboche and we will try to walk up to 4900m. This hike gives us the magnificent view of Ama Dablam, Island Peak, and Tabuche with other peaks. 

After enjoying the view and spend some time we will retrace back to Dingboche for the afternoon. If you are interested you can visit the hospital nearby Pheriche (4200 m) and attend the seminar run by the Himalayan Rescue Association. The walk towards Pheriche offers an opportunity to be acclimatized.

Day 9: Trek to Lobuche
5/6 Hours Walk

We will continue our walk along the trail up on a platform above the valley floor. This trail leads us to Dugla. Ahead of us is the trekking peak of Lobuje East (6119m) and to our west is the awful north face of Tabuche, the scene of many cutting-edge Himalayan ascents of the 1980s and 1990s. 

A little more than a couple of hours of walk from here takes us to Dugla, our lunch stop. After lunch we ascent up the steep hill to the Sherpa memorials, where we can see the mesmerizing view of Ama Dablam, Cholatse and Tabuche.

From Tabuche, the trail starts steeply to ascent beside the glacier moraine. After a couple of hours, the trail eventually heads to a small group of tea houses pleasingly positioned at Lobuche where we will stay overnight.

Day 10: Trek to Everest Base Camp and Stay at Gorakshep
7/8 Hours Walk
Max Altitude: 5164 M

Today we will start our walk early in the morning. About 3 hours further from Lobuche, we reach Gorakshep, the spot of the 1953 expedition’s base camp. We will sleep here tonight on the return from the Everest Base Camp. We will fill up or carry more water and walk to the popular trail to the Everest Base Camp. 

While walking we need to be careful, as there is a chance of rockfall on our left as we walk towards the Khumbu Glacier. This is it you will walk the final section into Everest Base Camp (5364m), stroll around the surroundings, and go to the edge of the Khumbu Icefall. 

If you trek this region during spring (April -may) you will see many climbers preparing for their summit of Mount Everest. It is very interesting to hear from the people who have conquered some of the highest mountains in the world.

Day 11: Hike to Kalapathar - Back to Pheriche and Heli Fly to Khare

Today we will make the ascent of Kala Pattar at (5,545 m). It is highly recommended that you make an early morning ascent of Kala Pattar to get a stunning sunrise view over Everest. The climb takes between 2 and 3 hours and can be hard work, but the effort is rewarded by the classic view of Everest and the Khumbu Icefall, as well as Lhotse, Nuptse, and Pumori immediately above. 

This view of Everest will leave you inspired and mesmerized and maybe change your life in a way that you never ever imagined. The imposing sight of Everest is more than enough to take away anyone’s breath.

After the morning summit, we will return to Gorakshep, have breakfast and pack our bags and prepare for the helicopter ride to Khare where you will hike down to Pheriche for the Heli flight. The Heli flight will provide you ample opportunity to see the aerial view of snowcapped mountains, peaks, and amazing Himalayan settlements.

Day 12: Acclimatization & Pre Climbing Training

This will be a rest day in Khare. From Khare, we can take a small side trip to a surrounding hill that offers an astonishing view of the Everest region, including the Mera Peak and the Mera La Pass (5,400 m). It is important to rest and relax today and recover from the previous exertion getting up to Everest base camp. This is the end of trekking and the commencement of climbing.

Day 13: Trek to Mera Base Camp
4/5 Hours Walk
Max Altitude: 5300 M

Today we will make a move from Khare to Mera Base Camp (5,300m). Today we climb up to the Mera Glacier, en route crossing the Mera la Pass. Initially, it is easy but the trek up to the glacier is steep in some parts and you will need to pace yourself and make sure you are getting your foot placements correctly. 

There is a chance of rockfall so wearing helmets, crampons are needed. We will take a short descent before we reach the campsite for the day. We walk between the moraine and the glacier on the northern side as it descends from the col down to the campsite which you can easily see from the glacier.

Day 14: Trek to High Camp
3/4 Hours Walk
Max Altitude: 5780 M

We will climb up to Mera High Camp (5780 m). We again head back up onto the glacier to where we dropped off yesterday and follow the easy graded snow slopes. After a short descent up we come across an area of crevasses that needs utmost care while walking past. 

We then make our way slowly up to High camp. Looking back offers you a great view of the Himalayan peaks including Everest, Makalu, Nuptse, and Lhotse and this trek up to high camp holds some real Himalayan treasures. 

We camp today at a place hidden between rocky sections. The campsite is small and has some drop-offs on the right as you enter the camp. It is time to rehydrate and recover for the summit push.

Day 15: Summit to Mera Peak and Back to Khare
10-12 Hours Walk/Climb
Max Altitude: 6,476 m

The time we start depends on the weather conditions. An early morning start is most likely. We set out in the dark and start walking up. 

If we start around 2 am as planned we can reach the summit in about 6 hours i.e 8 am in the morning. The climb will have occasional technical difficulties. The central summit appears above the wide glacier, flanked by 2 ridges. We climb the snowfields avoiding the crevasses.

This is the steepest section of the whole Mera Peak climbing and has to be dealt with utmost care and patience. The route swings to the east of the left-hand ridge before turning back towards the main summit ridge of Mera. 

Our destination of the climb is the highest among the 3 peaks of Mera. The last 50m/164ft is quite challenging and is very physically demanding as well so requires a lot of effort. Jumaring on a short steep ice section and you arrive at the summit after quite a physically challenging walk. 

We will spend some time regathering energy and enjoy the surrounding Himalayas and have a short abseil after which we drop down to the High camp. We will rest for one hour, and back up your kit before descending back down to Khare at (5045m)

Day 16: Contingency Day for the Summit

Given that the weather conditions are not good on the previous day, we will make an attempt today, if things go fine as planned we will spend this day rest. Mera can have high winds and deep snow so having this extra day gives you another chance at making the summit of Mera peak. If in case we completed this on a particular day we can descend in order to shorten our day.

Day 17: Trek to Kothe
5 Hours Walk
Max Altitude: 3580 M

Today we walk to Kote along the same trail as we used initially. After we reach Kothe, we will celebrate our success by singing dancing with local ‘Rakshi’ and wines. We will stay overnight at Kote by sharing our successful moments with each other.

Day 18: Trek to Thuli Kharka

Today we will ascent through the Rhododendron forests on the west of the Hinku Valley to Thuli Kharka. Rhododendron is the popular and national flower of Nepal and during our entire journey we get to get high regard for stunning hills scattered with Rhododendrons. Thuli Kharka is a vantage point from which we can enjoy the great view of Mera Central, Mera North, and South face.

Day 19: Trek to Lukla
6/7 Hours Walk

We start our day by walking up to Zatrwa La Pass. As soon as we cross the pass, we are warmly welcomed by the glimpse of the magnificent Lukla Valley which is enclosed by Cho Oyu, Numbur Himal, Kongde Peak, Kusum Kanguru, and other small snowcapped peaks. 

From Zatrwa La Pass we descent to Chutanga and then walk gently to Lukla Village. We will bid farewell to some of our crew members here as they will stay in Lukla, after a couple of days they will lead another group for the Mera peak climbing.

Day 20: Fly to Kathmandu
35 Minutes Flight and Transfer to Hotel

Today we will take an early flight from Lukla to Kathmandu as it lies in the Himalayan region and we cannot be sure about the bad weather. Upon arrival at Kathmandu, you can go to the spa and massage center to get rid of the pain and tiredness of trekking.

Q. 1. What is the highest point of Mera Peak Climb with Everest Base Camp Trek?

The highest point of the trek is the Mera Peak summit which is located at an elevation of 6,467 meters above sea level. 

Q. 2. How long does it take for Mera Peak climbing with EBC?

It requires a total of 22 days for Mera Peak climb with EBC, however, the ascent to Mera Peak is a one-day summit. 

Q. 3. Can I climb Mera Peak with Everest Base Camp without a guide?

It is not possible for Mera Peak to climb with EBC without a guide. As this trip includes ascension to Mera Peak, it is mandatory for an authorized climbing guide. Although Mera Peak has less amount of technical factors, it is mandatory for a climbing guide to ensure one's safety. Our guides are authorized professional climbing guides who are skilled and have a lot of knowledge and experience in this field. 

Q. 4. Do I need travel insurance for Mera Peak climb with EBC Trek?

Travel Insurance for Mera Peak climbing with EBC trek is mandatory. You could purchase insurance from a reliable insurance agency from your location/home country. While purchasing travel insurance one must choose the one that covers emergency and medical evacuation, trip cancellation/delay, medicinal treatment, injury, loss of baggage, liabilities, etc

Q. 5. When is the best time to climb Mera Peak with Everest Base Camp?

The best season for the Mera Peak climb is Autumn (September-November) and Spring (March-May). Spring and Autumn are peak seasons in Nepal. These months offer vistas of clear blue sky, and the majestic Himalayas, the weather is also pleasant and there is the least chance of any unforeseen contingencies. 

Q. 6. How hard is Mera Peak with Everest Base Camp Trek?

Mera Peak is a less technical trekking peak in Nepal that is also graded as beginner-friendly. This trek is a moderate-level trek that doesn’t require previous mountaineering experience. But this doesn’t mean that enthusiastic travelers do not require to be in good shape. We recommend having good physical and mental health and engaging in outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, jogging, biking, etc. before the climb/trek.

Generally, in cities like Kathmandu, Lukla, and Namche Bazar, we arrange basic three-star facilities. If available, you can opt for a more budget-friendly option or upgrade to a more luxurious hotel by paying a little extra. 

Although all the places might not have all the modern facilities, we will make sure to arrange safe and comfortable accommodation. In general, hygienic and safe tea houses/local lodges/ home-stays with all the basic facilities are arranged. But you can, if possible, personalize according to your preference.

Breakfast is usually included with your B&B Accommodation within the cost that is evident.
For other meals in the city, you would have to pay separately. Often in the cities, you can choose from many different cuisines and varied food services. We can always help you find the right place to fit your taste.

In more remote areas, usually, there are not many options. But you can always find hygienic and well-prepared food. Moreover, almost all the meals during the trek are included in the cost. We can help you make changes according to your preference and budget, but only if choices are available!
On top of that, Himalayan Trekkers also organizes Welcome and Farewell Dinners as a symbol of warm greetings.
