Langtang Gosaikunda Trek Overview

The outstanding Langtang Gosaikunda Trek combines the beauty of peak sceneries and the happiness of meeting the Tamang and Sherpa’s community, whose kindheartedness and generosity are very popular.

Snuggled at the lap of magnificent Ganesh Himal and Langtang Lirung ranges, to the north of Kathmandu, is a stunning sheltered valley filled with nature’s reward - the Langtang National Park, which houses the pristine freshwater Gosaikunda Lake.

This park houses the red pandas, dense rhododendron thickets, herds of blue sheep graze the alpine meadows and glaciated valleys amidst the scenery of supercilious Himalayan peaks. Your journey to Gosaikunda lake (4460 m) takes you through pine, oak, and rhododendron forests is less recurrence than others and will appeal to mountain lovers to get to this off the beaten track.

The ideal trekking seasons to Gosakinda are months from February to June and September to December. You may experience occasional snowfall from in the months of November, December, and January, and mid-February.

The 16 days hike passes through the sanctified lake of Gosaikunda and the Laurebina pass at 4610 m. Finally, we walk down to Dhunche (the gateway of Langtang Trek) and straightly drive back to Kathmandu.

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

Max Altitude: 1,350 m

After arrival at the International airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by our representative from Himalayan trekkers and transfer to the hotel. After having some rest there we will be discussing the trek details and necessary equipment that you need while trekking. We will organize a welcome dinner at the traditional Nepalese restaurant with a fine meal in the evening and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu valley & trek preparation
5-6 hrs

On this particular day, we start our tour with an experienced tour guide and takes you to the several most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu, world heritage sites of Kathmandu Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the renowned and wonderful Swayambhunath which is also called 'Monkey Temple' and Buddhists shrine (Baudha Nath). In the daytime, there will be a pre-trip discussion about the trekking equipment and we will meet the trek leader as well. We stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Scenic drive to Syabrubesi

On this day in the morning, around 7.00 am we depart from Kathmandu and drive to Shyabrubensi which is at the elevation of 1460 m. We stay overnight at the Guest House.

Day 4: Trek to Lama Hotel

On this day path move down along the edge then go down to the river valley throughout terraced meadows and fascinating forests, then the path climbs up slowly throughout the river valley giving the mouthwatering scenic beauty of the waterfall, dense forest to Lama Hotel.

Day 5: Trek to Langtang Village
6-7 hrs
Max Altitude: 3,430 m

On this day after having delicious lunch at Lama Hotel, we move forward to Langtang village at the elevation of 3430 m through Ghore Tabela at 3000 m, which takes us approximately six hours.

On the way, we will see some Yaks grazing in the field. The local community brought their animals for grazing in the high meadows during the time of summer. We can see a monastery before we arrive in Langtang Village. We reimburse our short visit to the monastery and reach our destination.

Day 6: Trek to Kyanjin Gompa
3-4 hrs
Max Altitude: 3,800 m

Easily walking a couple of hours by enjoying the scenic beauty of mountains we will arrive at Kyanjin for Lunch. Our path ascends through the small villages and communities as well as yak pastures as the valley widens further and the scene becomes more beautiful and clear. 

We reach Kyangjin Gompa after crossing many small watercourse and moraines. We will also visit the cheese factory at Kyangjin Gompa. We would have fun and get pleasure from the panoramic scene of Dorje Larpa (6990 m), Langtang RI (6370 m), and Langtang Lirung (7245 m), and so on.

Day 7: Free day to explore in Kyanjin & Kyanjin Ri

We would familiarize ourselves at Kyangjin Gompa and go for the trek to utilize our remaining hours. On this day we will visit the monastery and cheese factory. We trek up the moraine to view the fantastic ice falls and plummeting glaciers of Langtang Lirung or ascend Kyangjin RI at the elevation of 4350 m.

Day 8: Trek back to Lama Hotel
6-7 hrs
Max Altitude: 2,340 m

On this day we walk to Lama Hotel from Kyangjin Gompa. From Kyangjin we repeat our path following the Langtang Khola to Langtang valley and on to the Ghore Tabela. We have our lunch at Ghore Tabela and start trek vertical fall to Lama Hotel.

Day 9: Trek to Thulo Syabru

Max Altitude: 2,260 m

On this particular day, we walk from Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru at 2260 m. The starting of our trek is gently descending till Pairo and then goes vertical up to Thulo Syabru. On the way, we can see the Red Pandas, Monkey, and other various species of birds and animals.

Day 10: Trek to Sing Gompa

Now we trek to Sing Gompa from Thulo Syabru at 3330 m. Our way from Thulo Syabru heads to Foprang Danda at 3200 m. passing through the Dursagang at 2660 m. We will get a chance to see the scenic beauty of the Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Tibetan Mountain and forests of Oak, Hemlock and Fir. After a short distance, we arrive at Sing Gompa. We would find well manages local cheese factory and Buddhist Monastery at Sing Gompa too.

Day 11: Trek to Gosaikunda

Max Altitude: 4,460 m

On this day we walk from Sing Gompa to Gosaikunda at 4460 m. through Lauribinayak La at 3920 m. We would follow a rocky and rough path with a magnificent view of Himal Chuli (7893 m,) Manaslu (8156 m,) and Ganesh Himal (7406 m). 

On a clear sky, we can see the Annapurna range as well as Langtang Lirung. At Gosaikunda, we would see a dozen of lakes and among them, the main three lakes are Saraswati Kunda, Vairab Kunda, and Gosaikunda. 

According to the Hindu Myth, Gosaikunda was formed by Shiva when he perforated a glacier with his trident to get water to satisfy his thirst after having swallowed poison.

Day 12: Trek back to Sing Gompa

On this, we trek from Gosaikunda to Sing Gompa at 3250 m. Our path moves down all the way to Sing Gompa passing through the Lauribinayak. We would see the mouthwatering mountain views along the path. We would trek through the forests while going to Sing Gompa.

Day 13: Trek to Dhunche
5-6 hrs
Max Altitude: 1,950 m

Today we walk from Sing Gompa to Dhunche which takes us approximately six hours. The initial fraction of the path moves down through the Pine, Silver Oak and Rhododendron forests with Marijuana plants up to suspension bridge over the Sing Gompa Stream. From this place, our trail goes even through some human settlements and reaches Dhunche also the headquarters of Rasuwa district.

Day 14: Drive to Nagarkot
7-8 hrs drive

Today we drive back to Kathmandu from Dhunche. It is attractive and interesting to enter into the rural settlements on the way back to Kathmandu. Upon the arrival in Kathmandu, we go to Nagarkot through Bhaktapur (1838 m). At Nagarkot, we will see the beautiful scenery with the fabulous sunset view. We stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 15: Morning hike & drive to Kathmandu
an hour hike, 2 hrs drive

Today, you will have a hike for sunrise view in the early morning. After a hike, you will enjoy your breakfast and drive back to Kathmandu. During the day time, you can stroll around Thamel for souvenirs to friends and family. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 16: Final departure

In general, we arrange a 3* Standard Category Accommodations with all facilities in cities. If available, you can opt for a more budget-friendly option or upgrade to a more luxurious hotel by paying a little extra.

Although all places during your trek do not have all modern facilities (especially at higher altitudes), we ensure that it is arranged safely and comfortably. Mostly hygienic and safe tea houses / local lodges/homestays are arranged & please feel free to personalize according to your preference.

If your travel schedule includes camping or if you choose to experience it, a correct campsite will be determined in advance and everything will be taken care of. Meals

Breakfast is usually included with your accommodation within the costs. Meals in the city must be paid separately. Often in the cities, you can choose from many different cuisines and varied food services. We can always help you find the right place.

Remote areas don't have that many options, but hygienic and well-prepared food is always served. Moreover, most meals are included in the costs during your trek. We can help you make changes according to your preference and budget, but only if choices are available!
