Helambu Chisapani Nagarkot Trek Overview

At the maximum elevation of just 3500 m, this short Helambu Chisapani Nagarkot Trek showcases the supreme highlights of the Himalayan Ranges and an insight into the diverse culture of the mountain people. Tarkey Ghyang is an eye-appealing spot in the journey - Sherpa Village consisting mostly of Yak Herders and farmers.

Located at a close distance from the capital, Helambu catches the eyes of travelers for many fascinating reasons. It is the Hyolmo Culture of the locals, the sight of the snow-capped Himalayan Peaks, majestic waterfalls, bamboo forests, and green rhododendron trees that make up for the majority of the trekking journey.

While you will be walking the trail, the scenery of the Himalayan Peaks and different monasteries combines together to deliver an enchanting experience.

A few hours of drive from the vibrant and colorful city of Kathmandu leads you to Sundari Jal from where you will begin the walk up to Chisapani. Besides being an exciting short trek in the Himalayas, the Helambu Trek also promises to reward you with the sights of some extremely amazing small villages like Talamarang, Timbu, Tarkhegyang.

You will be amazed to see how the locals in these villages are holding on to their roots by practicing the Sherpa Culture with pride. Other notable stops in the journey include Sermathang, Melamchi, Nagarkot, and Bhaktapur before finally traveling back to Kathmandu.

Day 1: Drive to Sundarijal & Trek to Chisopani
1 Hours Drive & 5 Hours Walk

We thrive to deliver you a life-changing trekking experience and as you will be done embracing the beautiful and authentic culture of Nepal in Kathmandu, the hour's drive to Sundarijal begin. As you set your foot in Sundarijal, you will be blown away by the thrilling beauty of the surroundings. The walk starts from here on the trail that runs along with a small hydroelectric plant and finally enters the Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve. 

Going further on the journey, you will witness the first rural settlement of Nepal, the Mulkharka Settlement mostly inhabited by Tamang people. The walk from here traverses through the beauty of the oak and rhododendron forests which finally leads you to Chisopani. The magnificence of the high Himalayan Peaks like Mt. Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Shishapangma, Gaurishankar, and much more is a treat to witness.

Day 2: Trek to Talamarang
6 Hours Walk
Max Altitude: 960 M

The journey today begins with a downhill trek crossing through the authentic rural Nepal where you will get to see terraced farmlands, villages, local farmers, and farming animals till you reach your first stop at Pati Bhanjyang. After your shortstop at Pati Bhanjyang, you will take the ascending trail leading out towards Gosaikunda cutting through the terraced lands and villages, and finally reach Thakani.

Here, you will get the chance to witness a whole different culture and community as well as gorgeous views of ranges like Langtang Himal, Dorje Lapka, and some other surrounding peaks before you set and ready to take on the rough trail ahead to Talamarang. Talamarang is a mixed community to be precise as people of different cultures reside here. You can also see a motorable road that connects to Kathmandu via Timbu and Melamchi Pul Bazaar.

Day 3: Trek to Timbu
5/6 Hours Walk
Max Altitude: 2330 M

Follow the motorable road out of Talamarang and start on the raw trail giving you deeper delves into the culture of the local villagers. You will also cross a couple of villages like Mahankal and Chanaute along your way to Timbu. Feel the cool breeze as you go past these villages over the flat path and take in all the beauty nature is offering. If you plan to take this trail in October, then you get to see the farmers harvesting rice in their merry behavior. 

The Timbu Village is a reflection of the authentic mountain culture and this Sherpa Village is certainly a thing to look out for in the journey. The abundance of the Sherpa and Tamang people going ahead with their daily chores is a sight you get to witness and cherish.

Day 4: Trek to Tarkeghyang
6/7 Hours Walk

Tarkeghyang is among the prettiest of the Sherpa villages, dotted with beautiful ancient monasteries and supreme green sights of nature. Moreover, Tarkeghyang is originally known as Helambu and the name is originated from the Hemlu Caste. 

Besides the culture of the village, the trail you walk on today is equally enthralling. Witness the terraced lands and forests as you walk on the ascending journey bypassing many small settlements.

Day 5: Trek to Shermathang
5 Hours Walk
Max Altitude: 2610 M

The fifth day marks the easiest day of the whole journey as most part of the walk is on flatlands. Enjoy the brilliance of the surroundings, beautiful forests, small streams, vast green lands, all account for the raw beauty of nature.

After relaxing and refreshing 5-hours of walk, as you reach the Shermathang Village, the surreal setting of the village will amaze you as a whole. As you look up to the northern face, the sights of the Jugal Himal range will tempt. At the highest point of the village, you get to see a Buddhist Monastery.

Day 6: Drive to Nagarkot from Melamchi Pul Bazar
2 Hours Walk & 4 Hours Drive

Another Pleasant 2 Hours walk in the morning is to Melamchi Pul Bazar where your Car will be waiting to pick up you and transfer you to Nagarkot Though the majority of the village is dominated by the Sherpa Culture, you will see a lot of people of other ethnicities. The walk and drive both are blessed with the splendor of the mountain views while the descending trail passes through the meadows and cultivated fields. Undoubtedly, a fine experience.

Now, we planned this destination to present you with some exclusive sights of this country. Nagarkot is a fascinating place to witness some ecstatic views of the mountains. Sights of Annapurna, Dorje Lakpa, Gauri Shankar, Langtang, and many other ranges make this an outstanding place to watch the sunrise. 

Arrive at Nagarkot after around 4 hours drive to Nagarkot, Where you will have a chance to see the Sunset View. Overnight stay at Hotel.

Day 7: Hike to ChanguNarayan & Drive to Kathmandu
3 Hours Hike & 1:5 Hours Drive
Max Altitude: 1350 M

The first part of the trek to Changunarayan takes around three and half hours and it is another 90 minutes of a drive back to the capital, Kathmandu. Experience the thrill of walking along a ridge with views of the Changunarayan Temple, Sankhu Village, and Bhaktapur Village. This temple has a lot of rich history associated with it and is beautifully decorated with sculptures and carvings. Rediscover your soul from within in this oldest temple of the valley before finally boarding the vehicle back to Kathmandu.

Note: You can extend your trip within Kathmandu or outside Kathmandu Valley.

Accommodation

A wide range of accommodation facilities from 5-star hotels to homestays is available in Nagarkot. In our package, we offer standard accommodations with all the modern facilities. However, we can alter it as per the traveler’s interest and budget. 

In Helambu and Chisapani, lodges/guesthouse with basic facilities such as a hot shower and attached bathroom is available. The accommodation here is neat and clean but we really cannot expect more modern facilities like in Nagarkot and Kathmandu. 

Accommodation for Kathmandu is not included in the package. However, we offer 3-star category accommodation with breakfast on a twin/double sharing basis and we can include accommodation in the package on prior notice given by the travelers. But the accommodation can be modified as per the traveler’s interest, budget and availability. Luxurious resorts, standard hotels to comfortable guesthouses, lodges, and homestays are available in Kathmandu.

Meals During the Trip

In Helambu and Chisapani Nepali, Continental, Indian, Tibetan, and Hyalmo cuisine is available. Likewise, in Kathmandu and Nagarkot, a wide range of varieties of cuisine like Nepali, Indian, Continental, Tibetan, and other Western meals are available. Breakfast is included in the package but lunch, dinner, and beverages are not included because of the wide varieties of cuisine and restaurants/bars and pubs. However, we can also include lunch and dinner in the package at an additional cost. 

We allow our clients to order from the menu as per their choice in the Ala-kat system.
