Best of Jungle Safari Tour in Nepal Overview

This 7 nights 8 days program takes you to some of the most wildlife inhabited areas in South Asia. Best of Jungle Safari Tour includes two of the best jungle safari destinations in Nepal - Chitwan National park and Bardiya National Park.

Chitwan National Park (CNP) is the oldest National park in Nepal which covers an area of 952.63 sq.km. Situated at the inner Terai lowlands, it was officially established in 1973 and was entitled as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.

Until the early 50s, the national park used to be a royal hunting reserve for the Nepalese and foreign aristocrats. Due to increment of human settlements and poaching activities, endangered animals such as one-horned rhino and bengal tigers, strict measures are taken to  preserve them.

As CNP was declared as a conservation area it's now home to more than 500 of these various wildlife, being the major highlight of the this park and is of one the major tourist destinations in Nepal.

The best Jungle Safari Tour trip starts with a drive to Chitwan from Kathmandu. The activities include Tharu Cultural dance, Tharu Village exploration, Elephant Back Safari, visiting elephant breeding center, Canoeing, and Bird watching.

Located at the lowlands of western Terai, Bardia National Park was established in 1988 covering an area of 968 sq.km including the Buffer zone. The Bardia National park is the habitat of many rare mammals, reptilians, and bird species.

The most notable are the Bengal tiger, one-horned Rhino, swamp deer, Gangetic dolphin, and many more. Similar to other national parks in Nepal you can do jeep safari, Elephant safari (nowadays in the Tharu village as private elephants are not allowed inside the park), bird watching, and canoeing/boating in the Karnali River, the longest river in Nepal.

Day 3: Full day Jungle Activitiy
5-6 Hrs
Max Altitude: 415 m

Your day starts with a wake-up call which is mostly a knock at the door by the staff as most jungle lodges don’t have intercom services.

You will have breakfast before heading out for the canoe trip. The canoe is a long wooden boat made from either a silk cotton tree or Sal tree and seats as many as 15 people depending upon the length. The ride will be about 40 minutes and during the canoe ride, you can see two species of crocodile basking in the sun and many birds, and if you are lucky enough a rhino drinking water from the river.

The canoe ride ends near the Elephant breeding center where you can see more than 25 elephants as well as some small and yet big newborns. The Naturalist will brief you about the daily routine, behavior, and eating habits of the elephants.

After the briefing, we will go to the river to see the elephants bathing. You can take a shower on top of an elephant after paying 2-3 dollars.  Soon after the shower, we will head back to the hotel and have lunch.

After lunch, we will participate in the elephant back safari which is usually 1.5 to 2 hours long. You are likely to encounter some wildlife animals like sambar deer, spotted deer, rhesus macaques, gray langurs, jungle cats, marbled cats, and Indian Rhino on this trip.
